The Palestinian parliamentary election scheduled for 28 November 2026 has been postponed by months, according to an ANP/Reuters report citing a letter from senior Palestinian official Hussein al-Sheikh to the French government. The report does not give a replacement polling date. [1]
The letter says an assessment found that the political, security and economic conditions anticipated when the election was scheduled had not materialised, according to the report. [1]
According to the ANP/Reuters report, the last Palestinian presidential and parliamentary elections took place about two decades ago. It says Mahmoud Abbas won the last presidential election in 2005, while Hamas defeated Abbas’s Fatah party in the last parliamentary election in 2006. [1]
