New Zealand’s general election has produced a close contest, with the governing National Party and opposition Labour each winning about 29 per cent of the vote in preliminary results. The margin was only a few thousand votes, and overseas ballots could still affect the outcome.
Prime Minister Christopher Luxon said the election was “too close to call”, while arguing that National remained the largest party and had a path to form the next government. Labour leader Chris Hipkins also cautioned that the result was not yet clear, saying it could take longer to determine what voters had decided.
