A major fire broke out in a warehouse on Johan Huizingalaan in western Amsterdam on 1 October. The fire brigade scaled up its response to a “very large fire” because it was unclear what was inside the building. [1]
A safety region spokesperson said nobody was inside. Fire crews were protecting nearby buildings to prevent the flames spreading. The fire brigade said the warehouse could not be saved, so emergency services were allowing it to burn out under control. [1]
A railway line runs beside the site. Train operator NS said services between Amsterdam Sloterdijk and Schiphol had stopped because of the fire brigade’s operation. The cause of the fire and when trains will resume remain unknown. [1]
