Ukraine’s president called for more sanctions after two women were killed in Zaporizhzhia and others were injured in overnight attacks.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky called for further European sanctions on Russia on 26 September after overnight attacks killed two women in Zaporizhzhia. He said 14 people had been injured across Ukraine, with homes struck in Kyiv, Zaporizhzhia and the Odesa, Sumy and Kharkiv regions. [1]
Regional official Ivan Fedorov said a Russian drone hit a house in Zaporizhzhia, injuring a four-year-old boy and a 45-year-old man. Local broadcaster Suspilne reported the women’s deaths after speaking to a relative and residents. [2] [10]
Zelensky asked EU leaders António Costa and Ursula von der Leyen to introduce additional sanctions and urged other leaders to keep Russian oligarchs on existing sanctions lists. He also asked US President Donald Trump to implement a Russia-related measure he associated with Senator Lindsey Graham. Zelensky said Russian attacks were escalating daily. [1]
Russian authorities said two people had been killed by Ukrainian attacks in the Krasnodar region overnight, Dutch news agency ANP reported. [7]
The EU had extended existing sanctions against people accused of threatening Ukraine’s sovereignty through September 2029 in a decision taken on 22 September, before Zelensky’s latest appeal. [4]
