Meta is restricting ByteDance’s paid promotions on its platforms in several countries, including the US, Canada, Japan and Thailand.
Review information is loading.
Meta has barred advertisements and paid promotional posts from ByteDance, the company behind TikTok, on its platforms in the United States and some other countries, according to a syndicated news report. Meta says the restriction also covers Canada, Japan and Thailand. The report does not give a full list of affected countries or say when the restriction took effect. [1]
A Meta spokesperson told Bloomberg that the company was not obliged to carry advertising from a competitor seeking to draw people away from its apps, and described refusing promotional services to a rival as common practice. [1]
The report says ByteDance is no longer TikTok’s principal owner in the US following a transfer of its American operation in January to a consortium of predominantly US investors, but remains involved with the platform. [1]
