King Philippe and Queen Mathilde are due to visit Kazakhstan from 11 to 14 October. Belga describes the planned trip as Belgium’s first state visit to Central Asia, Nieuws.nl reported on 2 October. [1]
Their itinerary includes Astana, where they are expected to meet President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, and Almaty. The visit is set to focus on economic, academic and cultural cooperation between Belgium and Kazakhstan. [1]
Philippe has visited Kazakhstan before as crown prince. He travelled to Baikonur for Belgian astronaut Frank De Winne’s mission launches in 2002 and 2009, and led an economic mission to the country in 2010. [1]
