The Dutch justice and interior ministries and Gelderland province have promised financial support to Heumen municipality after violence reported in the village of Overasselt, a Justice Ministry spokesperson told the ANP news agency. Heumen says its costs since the incident have risen to hundreds of thousands of euros. [1]
The spokesperson said Heumen could expect support on roughly the same scale, citing the impact on the municipality. No exact amount or payment date was given in the ANP report. [1]
ANP said the violence took place in the month before its 9 October report. A Heumen spokesperson had previously described it as an expression of a nationwide problem of subversive crime. Justice Minister David van Weel endorsed that view, saying the effects of such crime often become visible locally. Neither the people involved in the violence nor its precise circumstances were identified in the report. [1]
