BP reported third-quarter profit of nearly $8.5 billion, its highest in 18 years, as higher energy prices and strong refining margins boosted earnings during the war in the Middle East.
The British oil and gas company’s profit was up from $2.2 billion in the same quarter last year. BP chief executive Meg O’Neill said volatile markets and disruption to trade flows continued to shape energy markets. She said refineries were operating close to full capacity to meet demand for petrol and diesel.
BP recorded profit of $17.4 billion in the first nine months of the year, compared with just over $5.9 billion in the same period of 2025.
The results follow strong earnings from European rivals Shell and TotalEnergies. Shell’s profit doubled to $10.8 billion, its highest level since 2022.
