IPO chair Ina Adema has called for more national investment in infrastructure as the Dutch cabinet approaches decisions on which projects to fund.

At the annual congress of the Interprovincial Consultation (IPO) in Enschede, its chair Ina Adema urged the Dutch government to invest more in infrastructure and transport links. She said ministers should consider the social benefits of such spending, not just its costs. [1]
Adema, who is also the King’s Commissioner in North Brabant, warned that without concrete investment the Netherlands could quickly lose ground and come to a standstill. News agency ANP reported that the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management was tens of billions of euros short of the money needed to carry out all its plans for managing, maintaining and renewing infrastructure. [1]
ANP reported on 6 October that the cabinet was expected to announce in about two weeks which projects would proceed and which roads, bridges, locks and railway lines would have to wait for funding. [1]
