The Spanish Football Federation has postponed all 24 Copa del Rey matches scheduled for Wednesday after a deadly train collision near Urda, as emergency crews continued responding to the crash.
The federation said it would announce revised dates and kick-off times in the coming days. It described Spanish football as united in grief and said it had offered help to the authorities.
The collision involved two high-speed trains at Urda station in the Toledo region. Castilla-La Mancha’s emergency service reported 30 deaths and close to 100 people injured. Sky News later reported that the regional government had put the death toll at 64; the figures differ, and the available official incident page does not state when its casualty count was recorded.
The crash has also disrupted rail services. Operator Iryo said its train was struck from behind for reasons still unknown and that services from Madrid towards the southern high-speed corridor had been cancelled, with no resumption time given.
