A wedding present solved Kevin Hill’s 25-year mystery, though the Ian Wright shirt he was given was a replacement for the one taken in 2001.

Kevin Hill learned at his wedding reception in late August that his friend Kris Robertson was behind the disappearance of his Ian Wright Celtic shirt 25 years earlier. The surprise came with a football top and a photo book recording a long-running prank. [1]
Robertson said he had arranged for another school friend to take Hill’s shirt at a flat-warming party in 2001. He described it as payback for Hill interfering with his work emails. Hill subsequently received photographs of the shirt in different places, starting with a picture of an unknown woman holding it on the London Eye. [1]
Robertson said he asked people Hill would not recognise to pose with the top. He later passed it to travellers he met in Peru. Emails to Hill continued into 2009; Robertson said the photographs he was receiving stopped around 2013, after which he learned the original shirt had been lost. [1]
Robertson found a replacement shirt and applied matching lettering by hand before giving it to Hill alongside the photo book. Hill told the BBC it was “the best present I could have ever been given”. [1]
