The BBC will stop linear broadcasts on BBC Three and BBC Scotland in spring 2027, and close BBC Radio 4 Extra, as part of savings intended to cut £500 million over the next two years. The broadcaster says programmes from the television channels will remain available on iPlayer, with new shows still being made for the service; Radio 4 Extra programmes will move to BBC Sounds. [1]
More than 100 jobs are also set to go at BBC News, a move reported by Sky News, which the BBC expects to save £5.5 million. The cuts follow the loss of 550 jobs at BBC News and more than 30 at BBC Sport. [1]
The closures come alongside cancellations of programmes, including the end of new seasons of *RuPaul’s Drag Race UK*. [1]
