King visits dairy farm near Holten to hear about nature restoration plans

King Willem-Alexander visited a dairy farm near Holten in Overijssel, where he met the family who run it and heard about their plans to work with other local farmers on nature restoration.

The farm has 125 cows and 50 hectares of land. During the tour, the king asked whether any of the children were interested in taking over the business, but received no definite answer.

Agriculture Minister Jaimi van Essen accompanied the king. He said the visit was intended to show how farmers in the region were working together on plans for their area and contributing to nature restoration.

Before going to the farm, the king and minister visited a nature area. Van Essen said the programme was designed to show both the importance of nature recovery and what was being asked of farmers, including the work needed in the coming years to enable permits to be granted.
