The former German chancellor has taken a supervisory role at Hyperglobus, four years after leaving the board of Russian oil company Rosneft.

Former German chancellor Gerhard Schröder has joined the supervisory board of Russian supermarket chain Hyperglobus, ANP/DPA reported. It is a new Russian corporate role for Schröder after he left oil company Rosneft’s supervisory board in 2022. [1]
Hyperglobus was separated from Germany’s Globus in 2025 and now operates independently. Its more than 20 supermarkets in Russia still use the Globus name. [1]
Schröder, who was Germany’s chancellor from 1998 to 2005, also abandoned plans to join Gazprom’s supervisory board in 2022. His work for Russian state companies and his close ties to Vladimir Putin drew strong criticism after Russia invaded Ukraine that year. [1]
