FC Utrecht will travel to Sunday’s away match against Telstar without its supporters after Thursday’s disorder following the club’s Dutch Cup tie against Kozakken Boys. The club says the short time before the fixture makes it impossible to identify everyone involved and ensure a safe, welcoming environment for travelling fans.
After the match, Utrecht supporters entered the pitch and sought confrontation with fans of the home side, according to ANP. The club said it opposed collective punishment, arguing that supporters who behaved properly should not suffer for individuals’ actions. But with the Telstar game only two days away, it could not rule out those involved travelling with the group.
The decision follows another incident involving some Utrecht fans in early September, when the league match at home to Go Ahead Eagles was abandoned after supporters continued throwing fireworks on to the pitch.
