Belgian prosecutors have opened a criminal investigation into a cyberattack that disrupted refrigerators and freezers at several supermarket chains, causing temperatures to rise and food to be discarded, according to the Belgian public prosecutor’s office.
The attack took place overnight in several EU countries, the ANP report said. In Belgium, the affected chains include Delhaize, Carrefour, Spar and Intermarché. The prosecutor’s office has announced an investigation, but no further details about the attack or those responsible were given in the report.
The incident follows a reported refrigeration-system disruption at Belgian supermarkets, including Delhaize. Albert Heijn said its stores were unaffected.
