Larry Mullen Jr says he was grateful to Bram van den Berg for standing in at U2’s Las Vegas shows, even as missing them was painful.

U2 drummer Larry Mullen Jr has described the mixed feelings he had hearing Bram van den Berg play his drum parts at the Sphere in Las Vegas. Nieuws.nl reported the comments on 29 September, attributing them to a Rolling Stone interview. [1]
Mullen missed all 40 of U2’s Sphere shows in 2023 and 2024 after major neck surgery. Van den Berg, a member of the Dutch band Krezip, stood in for him. Mullen said it felt strange to hear the parts played so well, but he was grateful to Van den Berg. He said missing the shows felt humiliating, though he did not feel abandoned by his bandmates and understood why U2 carried on without him. [1]
Mullen has recovered enough to play again, Nieuws.nl reports. With U2 rehearsing for a possible tour, he hopes to take part and said he could accept playing for an hour even if two and a half hours proved too much. [1]
