Emma Moore says a memorial garden gives her a place close to home to remember her baby daughter, Mabel, after a cemetery felt too far away.

Emma Moore has dedicated part of her garden to her daughter Mabel, who lived for two days after being born at 27 weeks in April, BBC News reports. Moore said that a cemetery had felt too far away, and she worried that visits there might become less frequent over time. [1]
According to the BBC, she chose a spot by a willow tree, placing a bench nearby with a plaque bearing Mabel’s name. The memorial garden also has a swing and planters filled with flowers. Moore said she was still grieving, but could sit there and think about her daughter. [1]
Andy Langford, clinical director at Cruse Bereavement Support, told the BBC that the stillness of green spaces “can help us connect with memories” of loved ones. [1]
