Divers searching for the weapon used in Friday’s fatal shooting in Amsterdam-Noord have found a firearm, Dutch news agency ANP reported. It is not yet clear whether the recovered firearm was used in the killing. [1]
The victim, an employee of Justitieel Complex Zaanstad, was shot dead on a terrace on the NDSM-kade on Friday afternoon, 25 September. The shooting happened close to the landing point for the ferry from Amsterdam Centraal station. [1]
ANP cited unnamed police sources as saying earlier that the suspect had thrown his weapon into the IJ waterway. Amsterdam police were working on the assumption that there were no other suspects. [1]
Police have appealed for anyone with information or images relating to the shooting to come forward. [1]
A man was shot dead at a venue on the NDSM-kade in Amsterdam-Noord at about 3.05pm on 25 September, Dutch police said. Officers arrested a suspect. A police spokesperson told NOS that the suspect left after an argument with the victim, returned a short time later and shot him. Police were investigating whether the suspect already had a gun during the argument or obtained one afterwards. [2] [4]
AT5 reported that people on the terrace fled or sheltered under tables. Divers helped police recover a firearm from the water. Officers took witnesses to a police station for interviews and said they were not working on the assumption that there were multiple suspects. [2] [3]
NOS relayed an account from a witness quoted by Het Parool who said the argument involved an off-lead, barking dog. Police said they were still investigating that account. [3]

The Dutch Public Prosecution Service says the 37-year-old suspect knew the 61-year-old victim from a prison in Zaanstad, ANP reported on Wednesday. The victim worked there while the suspect was detained at the prison several years ago. [6]
Prosecutors say the suspect confronted the victim aggressively about an unspecified event from the past before the shooting on 25 September. Police had previously said the shooting followed an argument near a venue on Amsterdam’s NDSM quay. The victim died of his injuries. [6] [2]
Whether the suspect’s dog also featured in the argument remains unclear. Earlier reports suggested the victim had asked for the dog to be kept on a lead, but police could not confirm that account. [3]
