Tesla plans to wind down Cybertruck production at its Texas factory next year, Elon Musk says, though he has not said whether the electric pick-up will be discontinued altogether or made elsewhere.
Musk said the move would “make room” for more production of Tesla’s self-driving Cybercab. Wes Morrill, the Cybertruck’s lead engineer, appeared to suggest the model was being discontinued, writing on X that it was “an incredible technology development platform” that “lives on through Cybercab”.
Musk replied “true” to a user describing the truck as discontinued next year, but added that “the Cybertruck fleet will be around for a long time”.
The angular, stainless-steel vehicle launched in 2023 after delays and a high-profile 2019 demonstration in which its supposedly unbreakable window shattered. Musk said the truck had received 146,000 orders while it was still in development, but Tesla has since faced disappointing sales. The Cyberbeast version is priced at $102,000 in 2026.
The truck also faced several recalls, including one in 2025 affecting more than 46,000 vehicles over concerns that part of the trim could fall off.
