The 1980 comedy 9 to 5, starring Dolly Parton, Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin, will return to US cinemas from 9 to 15 October 2026. Disney announced that a newly restored version will be released through 20th Century Studios for the one-week charity run. [1] [6]
Disney says it will donate net proceeds from US theatrical ticket sales during that period to The Dollywood Foundation, supporting its flagship programme, Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library. The literacy initiative provides children with a free book each month. [1]
The pledge does not cover the full ticket price. Disney’s terms allow deductions for the amounts retained by cinemas, third-party distribution fees and expenses, third-party campaign marketing and advertising costs, and CAF America’s administrative fees. No fixed donation per ticket or percentage of gross ticket sales is specified. [1] [4]
The announcement came on 25 September, which Disney described as the inaugural Give Like Dolly Day. The company said the new annual observance, held on that date, honours Parton’s commitment to helping children. [1]
Fandango lists the 2026 re-release with a 9 October opening date and links to cinema showtimes. [4]
