French police have arrested six people in different parts of France in connection with the theft of four works by Pierre-Auguste Renoir from the Renoir Museum in Cagnes-sur-Mer, near Nice, ANP reported on 7 October. [1]
The works were stolen about a month earlier. Two were recovered soon afterwards, but the other two remained missing at the time of the report. The arrests took place in the departments of Alpes-Maritimes, Hérault and Jura. [1]
ANP cited broadcaster BFMTV as reporting that police suspect at least two of those arrested of taking the works. The museum is in Renoir’s former home in Cagnes-sur-Mer, where he lived towards the end of his life. [1]
