Demi Vollering won the women’s road race world title in Montreal after an earlier breakaway attempt was caught. The 29-year-old Dutch rider then beat Poland’s Kasia Niewiadoma in a sprint, with Italy’s Elisa Longo Borghini finishing third. [1]
Vollering is the first Dutch woman to take the road title since Annemiek van Vleuten in 2022. It is the Netherlands’ 15th title in 66 editions of the women’s event, after two championships without a Dutch medal. [1]
The world title follows a season in which Vollering won the Tour de France, Giro d’Italia, Liège–Bastogne–Liège and Tour of Flanders. Her previous best world championship result was silver in Glasgow in 2023. [1]
