Several Dutch government websites, including Overheid.nl, MijnOverheid.nl and DigiD, were taken offline as a precaution on Wednesday after two vulnerabilities were reported in PHP, the software used to run websites. The Dutch government said there were no signs at the time that the flaws were being actively exploited. [1]
The National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) said the vulnerabilities could leave any website or server running PHP open to attack. It advised website operators, including government organisations, to assess their own risks and consider taking sites offline until a software update became available. An update was expected that afternoon, after which the NCSC recommended installing it as soon as possible. [1]
The government said many central-government websites, including Rijksoverheid.nl, do not use PHP and were therefore not affected by these vulnerabilities. [1]
