Jorge Martín broke his wrist in a crash during the Australian MotoGP sprint and will miss Sunday’s Grand Prix, a serious blow to his title campaign. Marc Márquez won the sprint and moved 10 points clear of his Spanish rival in the championship, according to ANP.
The Aprilia rider crashed on lap eight at Phillip Island after a close contest in which he had taken the lead from Márquez three times. He was carried on a stretcher to the medical centre, where doctors found the fracture.
Márquez, a seven-time MotoGP champion, started from pole and scored 12 points for the sprint victory. Martín’s absence from the main race gives Márquez the chance to extend his lead further.
