VNLOK says illegal gambling operators account for most gambling adverts on Facebook and wants Meta to do more to stop them.

The Dutch trade association for licensed online gambling operators, VNLOK, is taking Meta to court over adverts for illegal gambling sites on its platforms. The group says nine out of ten gambling adverts on Facebook come from illegal operators and that such operators also advertise extensively on Instagram. [1]
VNLOK says Meta removed fewer than one in six illegal gambling adverts in May and June. Its chair, Björn Fuchs, says the group has repeatedly raised the issue with Meta and asked it to work with the industry on a lasting solution, but considers the results insufficient. [1]
VNLOK also wants Dutch MPs to back a plan that would give the gambling regulator, the Kansspelautoriteit, greater scope to fine platforms such as Meta if they do too little to tackle illegal gambling adverts. [1]
