The first official frost of autumn has been recorded in the Netherlands, with temperatures in De Bilt dropping to -1.4°C early on Saturday, according to weather service Weeronline.
Frost had already been measured locally in parts of Brabant, Limburg and Zeeland on the night from Thursday to Friday, but Saturday’s reading was the first below zero in De Bilt, the Dutch benchmark for official frost.
The milestone is close to the seasonal average: temperatures in De Bilt typically first fall below zero on 8 November. Last year, the first sub-zero reading there came on 16 November. The most recent frost in De Bilt was on 29 March.
Saturday’s forecast varied across the country. The north was expected to remain grey, with highs of about 5°C, while sunnier areas elsewhere could reach 10°C.
