Jamie Miller has taken *Babydoll* to the top of the UK singles chart, becoming the first Welsh artist to score a number-one hit in 15 years, according to the Official Charts Company.
The 29-year-old singer narrowly beat Canadian artist Tate McRae, whose song *Housewife* finished second. The last Welsh act to top the chart was DJ Fresh, featuring Sian Evans, with *Louder* in 2011. The last Welsh male solo artist to reach number one was Shakin’ Stevens, whose *Merry Christmas Everyone* topped the chart in 1985.
Miller thanked listeners in a message to the Official Charts Company, saying: “I don’t even know what to say, other than: thank you so much for getting me to number one. This is the biggest thing that’s ever happened to me in my life – I love you!”
The Cardiff-born singer’s success follows a rapid rise for *Babydoll*, which became a viral hit and reached the UK top ten earlier this year.
