Bonfire Night is forecast to be dry but chilly across most of the UK, with temperatures falling into the mid-single figures on Thursday evening as millions prepare to celebrate.
High pressure is expected to keep most areas settled through the week, with a mix of cloud and sunshine by day. Showers may affect eastern Scotland and eastern England on Wednesday, while western areas are forecast to get the best of the sunshine.
Frost is possible in sheltered parts of northern Britain overnight, and fog may form, particularly where skies are clear. The BBC says temperatures are expected to be lower in rural areas than those shown on its forecast map for towns.
The cold will be a marked contrast with last year’s Bonfire Night: on 5 November 2025, some stations in the southern half of the UK recorded overnight temperatures that did not fall below 14C. The BBC describes it as the warmest Bonfire Night on record at several stations, including Southampton, Teddington, Portland, Bude and Anglesey.
High pressure is forecast to remain in control over the weekend, keeping conditions generally dry and chilly as firework displays and Diwali celebrations continue. Fog could become more widespread as winds ease. The outlook for next week is less certain, with low-pressure systems possibly returning from the west.
