The two opposition parties say they could help the Dutch government secure support for a budget in both houses of parliament.

Dutch opposition parties PRO and Volt approached Saturday’s budget talks together, saying their combined support could give Prime Minister Rob Jetten’s government a stable majority in both houses of parliament. PRO leader Jesse Klaver said before meeting Jetten and Finance Minister Eelco Heinen that he wanted to reach an agreement with the cabinet. [1]
The parliamentary numbers make Volt’s participation significant. DutchNews.nl reported that a deal with both parties would give the coalition a comfortable majority in the lower house and the 16 additional seats it needs in the Senate. PRO would need Volt’s two Senate seats to reach that threshold. [2]
Jetten and Heinen welcomed the parties’ cooperation earlier on Saturday, but Klaver said he did not know whether Heinen’s VVD would agree to a deal with PRO. [1]
PRO and Volt are seeking further concessions on social security. Jetten said ministers had prepared a new offer addressing welfare, living costs and the Box 3 asset-tax system. Jetten and Heinen also held talks with the ChristenUnie on Saturday; its leader, Mirjam Bikker, said the coalition had shown some movement. [2]
