Air France-KLM’s net profit rose to €938 million in the third quarter, from €768 million a year earlier, but KLM plans further job cuts and outsourcing as it seeks to improve the profitability of its European network.
The group’s revenue increased 7.6% to €9.9 billion in July, August and September, despite higher fuel costs. It said increased earnings from air freight and demand for direct flights to Asia and East Africa helped offset those costs amid disruption in the Middle East.
KLM’s adjusted operating profit climbed 30% to €458 million, partly because of lower aircraft leasing costs. But Air France-KLM says the Dutch airline is still falling short of its target profit margin of 8%, despite savings measures introduced since late 2024.
The new measures include reducing staff numbers, phasing out older aircraft and seeking limited wage rises alongside higher productivity. KLM also wants to make its European network more profitable.
Air France-KLM chief executive Ben Smith said earlier savings had delivered “significant structural improvements”. He said the group was making “clear choices to increase competitiveness” while continuing to invest in its customer promise, fleet and the connections it provides for the Netherlands.
