The Conservatives want to remove the individual £100,000 income limit on childcare support in England, which currently cuts off help when a parent earns above that level.

Under the current rules in England, working parents can receive 30 hours of government-funded childcare for children aged nine months to four years, but eligibility is lost when a parent’s income exceeds £100,000. The same income threshold applies to tax-free childcare, under which the government adds £2 for every £8 parents pay into a childcare account, up to £2,000 per child each year. [1]
Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch told the BBC’s *Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg* that the party did not want people penalised for working harder. The Conservatives say removing the threshold would encourage work and boost economic growth. [1]
The pledge comes as Conservatives gather for their annual conference in Birmingham. The party says it would fund the change by reducing staffing at public bodies that operate at arm’s length from ministers. It projects £1.6bn in savings by 2029–30 and estimates the childcare change would cost £700m. [1]
