In a statement on his website on Monday, Springsteen called El-Sayed a fighter for the US constitution and democracy. He said the candidate was also fighting what he described as “corrupt, lawless, and anti-American leadership currently in the White House”.
“That’s why I’m in his corner 100%,” the singer wrote.
El-Sayed faces Republican Mike Rogers in the 3 November vote. The Independent reported that Democratic representative Haley Stevens, whom El-Sayed defeated in the party’s primary, has endorsed Rogers after a falling-out with El-Sayed over Israel.
President Donald Trump has endorsed Rogers and repeatedly attacked El-Sayed. In October, Trump predicted that Black voters would reject the Democrat, although two September polls showed majority support for El-Sayed among Black likely voters.
