Student-loan interest rates in the Netherlands will rise in 2027 for around 250,000 former students, but the new rates will not apply to everyone with a loan.
Review information is loading.
For borrowers on a 15-year repayment schedule, the interest rate will rise by nearly one percentage point to 3.28% in 2027, according to news agency ANP. For those on a 35-year schedule, it will rise by 0.37 percentage points to 2.7%. [1]
The new rates will not apply to every former student. ANP says a former student’s rate is reset every five years. It identifies those covered as people who still received a loan in 2026 and those whose five-year fixed-rate period is ending. [1]
ANP says people who took out a student loan before 2015 fall under the 15-year repayment system, while those who began studying after 2015 can repay over 35 years. Interest rates for current students are adjusted annually. [1]
