The Cadillac driver rode from Malaysia after Sunday’s race at Sepang, taking in gravel trails and a night ride through the jungle.
Valtteri Bottas arrived in Singapore on Wednesday after cycling 260 miles (419km) from Malaysia rather than flying from the previous weekend’s Formula 1 race at Sepang, BBC Sport reports. The Cadillac driver set off hours after spinning out of Sunday’s Grand Prix and rode on off-road and gravel trails, including at night. [1]
Bottas said he spotted a cobra and a python, jumped over a lizard on his bike, was chased by a dog and got stuck behind cows on a narrow track. The night ride through the jungle was the wildest part, he said: the noises made his mind play games. [1]
The 37-year-old also qualified for the Gravel World Championships after finishing fifth in his age group at an event in the Czech Republic during Formula 1’s summer break. But the championships clash with this weekend’s Singapore Grand Prix, where he is due to race for Cadillac. He is 22nd in the drivers’ standings, without a point after 16 Grands Prix, according to BBC Sport. [1]
