Police in Paris have banned demonstrations in several central areas on Thursday, from 08:00 to 20:00, after major riots at the weekend. The authorities say they want to prevent further disorder as more large protests are expected on Saturday.
The restrictions cover prominent locations including the area around the Élysée Palace, parliament, the Louvre and the Champs-Élysées, according to a report by Nieuws.nl citing the police announcement.
Parts of Paris have also been subject to a night-time curfew in recent days. Similar curfews were imposed in other French cities, including Lille and Lyon. The government has said it will deploy a large police presence for Saturday’s demonstrations to prevent widespread rioting.
