The European Public Prosecutor’s Office (EPPO) is investigating a group suspected of selling used mobile phones as new, ANP reported. The group may have sold more than a million devices. Authorities carried out more than 160 searches and seizures across 19 European countries, including the Netherlands. [1]
Investigators suspect the phones were assembled in Hong Kong and the United Arab Emirates, then shipped to the Netherlands and moved to a warehouse in Germany. They were allegedly sold online from Germany to customers in several EU countries. [1]
A spokesperson for the Dutch Fiscal Information and Investigation Service (FIOD) told ANP that it took investigative steps in the Netherlands at Germany’s request. She did not specify what those steps involved, saying the FIOD was not leading the investigation. [1]
