Dutch competitor Gina Saarberg won the Golden Spurtle with organic pinhead oats, salt and water she brought from the Netherlands. She used the same recipe to win the Dutch championship in July. [1]
Australian champion Rob Reid took the speciality award with a porridge cannoli. That category allows competitors to combine oatmeal with other ingredients. [1]
Thirty competitors from 14 countries took part in the annual contest in Carrbridge, north of Aviemore. Saarberg suggested the soft water she brought from home might have helped her win. [1]
