UN sanctions records now list Mounir el Motassadeq’s address as Marrakesh and identify Noor Wali Mehsud as leader of the Pakistani Taliban.
The UN Security Council committee overseeing sanctions on Islamic State and al-Qaida has amended three entries on its list, changing the recorded address of a man convicted in Germany over the 9/11 attacks and updating information about the Pakistani Taliban’s leadership. [1]
The changes, made on 15 October, concern two individuals and the Tehrik-e Taliban Pakistan (TTP). The committee’s list records Mounir el Motassadeq’s address as Marrakesh, Morocco, replacing an entry stating that he was in prison in Germany. It says he was deported to Morocco in October 2018 after serving a 15-year sentence for being an accessory to murder and membership of a terrorist organisation. [1]
The committee also updated the entry for Noor Wali Mehsud, identifying him as the TTP’s leader, and revised the group’s entry to name him as its leader, replacing the reference to former leader Maulana Fazlullah. [1]
The list is subject to an assets freeze, travel ban and arms embargo under a Security Council resolution. The UN says it is updated regularly using information from member states and international and regional organisations. [1]
