Burnley have sacked head coach Nicky Hayen after just 14 games, following a 4-1 defeat by Lincoln City that left the club 22nd in the Championship.
The loss was Hayen’s final match in charge. Burnley announced his departure within two hours of the game, according to BBC Sport.
The Belgian was appointed on 10 July to replace Scott Parker, who left after Burnley’s relegation from the Premier League was confirmed. Hayen had won the Belgian title with Club Brugge in 2024 and was tasked with leading a promotion bid.
Burnley began the season with a draw against West Ham and recorded a 4-0 win over Watford earlier this month. But they have since drawn with Charlton and lost to Wolves before Saturday’s defeat. The loss to Lincoln was their sixth of the campaign and left them with one win in their past 24 league matches, BBC Sport reported.
The Clarets have conceded 25 goals in their opening 12 Championship games, the highest total in the division, the report said. Hayen had said after the Lincoln match that he would not “lose my energy” over his future, which he described as out of his hands.
