PostNL will remain the main carrier of Dutch government letters, but its new contract is smaller as mail volumes decline.
Review information is loading.
PostNL will continue to carry most Dutch government mail under an agreement beginning on 1 January 2027. The deal runs for at least two years, with options for two further one-year extensions. [1]
PostNL is expected to deliver hundreds of millions of letters annually for senders including ministries, the tax authority, welfare agencies, the Electoral Council and the courts. The new agreement is smaller than the previous one: a limited part of the tender went to other companies, and the volume of government mail has been declining. PostNL had already factored the reduction into its financial figures. [1]
PostNL says falling letter volumes have made its postal division loss-making. It wants to extend the standard delivery period from two to three days, but business contracts, including the government agreement, have their own delivery terms. [1]
