Audi’s proposed Georgia factory would be its first US production site. Its investment, jobs and vehicle output are plans rather than results already delivered.
Review information is loading.
Audi has announced plans for its first US production site in Georgia, with an investment of around $4 billion and roughly 4,500 jobs envisaged. President Donald Trump unveiled the plan at a campaign rally in Perry on 24 October, but the factory is planned for the Middle Georgia Megasite in Peach County, near Fort Valley — not Perry.
The jobs are a target, not an accomplished result. A Nieuws.nl headline presents 4,500 jobs as already created, although its report says that many people could work at the factory. Audi describes them as planned positions.
The plant is intended to make premium SUVs for North American customers. Audi says it will have the capacity to build up to 200,000 vehicles a year; that is a planned maximum, not a current production figure. Audi expects construction to begin in 2027 and production in the early 2030s. Georgia’s government gives a more detailed timetable: groundworks in 2027, construction of the facility in 2028 and full production in 2031.
Trump credited his tariff policies for Audi’s decision and put the investment at $4.2 billion. Audi and Georgia give a figure of about $4 billion. Audi points to growth in the US market and reduced trade and currency risks as reasons for building locally. The announcements do not establish how much weight tariffs carried in the decision.
