Tennis great Rafael Nadal has accepted a proposal to join Real Madrid’s board of directors, but the club’s members must approve his appointment at a meeting later this month.
Nadal, 40, said he accepted the proposal from club president Florentino Pérez and the board “with great excitement, a desire to learn, and a willingness to contribute everything I can”. Real Madrid described him as one of sport’s greatest legends and said he would contribute to the club’s present and future. The responsibilities he would take on have not been announced.
A lifelong Real Madrid supporter, Nadal has won 22 Grand Slam singles titles, two Olympic gold medals and helped Spain win five Davis Cups. He retired from professional tennis in 2024.
Pérez was re-elected for a new four-year term as president in June. Real Madrid are third in La Liga after 11 matches, three points behind Barcelona.
