Defending champion Gian van Veen has been knocked out of the European Darts Championship in Dortmund, losing 10-6 to England’s Luke Woodhouse in the last 16. The defeat leaves no Dutch players in the tournament.
Van Veen, 24, won his first major title at last year’s European Championship, beating Luke Humphries in the final. He reached the world championship final earlier this year but lost to Luke Littler, and has yet to win a second major tournament.
The world number two was eliminated a day after former world number one Michael van Gerwen lost in the opening round to Dutch compatriot Kevin Doets. Doets and Jermaine Wattimena were also beaten in the last 16 on Saturday.
