Microsoft has reportedly pulled out of a deal to anchor a new Nscale data centre near London, after a delay to the site’s planned power supply pushed its expected start-up beyond next year.
Microsoft has withdrawn from a deal to become the main customer of a new data centre in Loughton, east of London, after the project ran into delays, Nieuws.nl reports, citing The Telegraph. The centre had been expected to begin operating next year, but its electricity supply may not be available until the next decade. [1]
The centre is being built by British data-centre company Nscale. The Telegraph reported that the company had been told by authorities to expect power for the site only in the next decade. An Nscale spokesperson said the company was exploring alternative energy sources for the Loughton location. [1]
Nscale’s customers include Microsoft and Anthropic, the company behind Claude. The reported withdrawal comes as Nscale plans to list in New York this month. [1]
