Father awaits sentence after two-year-old son’s fatal Cyprus hotel fall

A court in Paphos heard how a two-year-old boy fell from a hotel window on the first day of his family’s holiday. His father has pleaded guilty to causing his death.

Joshua Foster, 37, appeared at Paphos District Court on Tuesday, 6 October, after previously pleading guilty to causing his two-year-old son’s death through a reckless, rash or dangerous act. The boy fell nearly 40ft (12.1m) from the fourth floor of the King Evelthon Beach Hotel and Resort in Chlorakas on 12 July, the first day of the family’s holiday. He was later pronounced dead at Paphos General Hospital. [1]
Foster’s lawyer, Alexandros Alexandrou, said the father had placed the boy on a windowsill after the child noticed a water park outside. Alexandrou said Foster had not realised that section of the window was open. [1]
Prosecutor Chryso Pergandi said police received reports of a child falling from a height at about 18:40 local time. Foster is due to be sentenced on 16 October. [1]
