At least ten Nepali climbers were initially reported missing after an avalanche struck a base camp near Himlung Himal in Nepal’s Manang district on Sunday, 27 September 2026. Expedition organisers said the local guides were at a staging point near the peak when the avalanche hit that morning. [1]
The Nepali team had gone ahead of foreign climbers to prepare the camp, manage the route and fix ropes. Bibhuti Chand Thakur, of Himalaya Holidays Trekking, told AFP that eight members of his expedition team and two people from another company were reported missing. [1]
Poor weather was hampering the initial rescue effort, with helicopters and rescue teams unable to reach the site. [1]
