Alton Towers permanently closes World of David Walliams

Alton Towers has permanently closed The World of David Walliams, the theme park has announced, ending the children’s-book-themed area that opened in 2021. The park has not given a reason for the closure.

The section was developed by Alton Towers’ creative team with author David Walliams and HarperCollins Children’s Books. Its rides included Gangsta Granny: The Ride, a 360-degree effects attraction, Raj’s Bouncy Bottom Burp and the Royal Carousel.

In a statement on its website, the park said visitors should check its website and app for current attraction opening information, as the main season has ended. Alton Towers said it had been approached for further details about the closure.

Walliams became widely known through the comedy series Little Britain, which he made with Matt Lucas, and later established a career as a children’s author. His first children’s book, The Boy in the Dress, was published in 2008. Alton Towers said the attraction was developed with HarperCollins, the publisher of his books.
