Sky has confirmed it received a security threat and is working with authorities to protect its staff and operations, as media organisations in Ireland were targeted by threats on Friday. The statement does not say that Sky received a bomb threat or that its offices were evacuated.
The Dublin campus of Irish broadcaster RTÉ was evacuated after an email threat, and police later declared the site safe. Other Irish media organisations also received threatening correspondence; some evacuated their offices, while Virgin Media Television said it stayed on air and did not evacuate.
Irish police said they were aware of threats against media organisations in Ireland and Europe and would investigate. The Irish government said it was not yet known whether the threats came from an individual or a co-ordinated effort.
The incidents came amid a wider wave of threats against European aviation. The Associated Press reported that multiple flights received bomb threats on Friday, following earlier alerts that led to diversions and searches. It remains unclear whether the threats against broadcasters and those targeting flights were linked.
