Pope Leo returned to the Vatican on Saturday after surgery to remove a cancerous nodule from his lung, according to a report by Nieuws.nl citing ANP and Reuters. His doctors said his recovery was going well. [1]
The 71-year-old left Rome’s Gemelli hospital on foot and got into a waiting car as a crowd waved and applauded. He also spoke briefly with Varvara, a 13-year-old Ukrainian girl receiving cancer treatment in Rome. [1]
The report says Leo had the most common form of lung cancer and that surgeons also removed the lower lobe of his right lung. While in hospital, he resumed work and called this week for a ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia. [1]
